I’m hitting the book trail again, with stops at the The Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival March 23, The Norges Musikkorps Forbund in Norway April 3&4, The Columbia University Center for Ethnomusicology April 10, and the EMP Museum PopCon April 26.
First up: Thacker Mountain Radio in Oxford, MS. Taping this Thursday and airing Saturday night on Mississippi Public Broadcasting.
Rebirth Brass Band keeps threatening to retire from the streets, so no one was surprised when they weren’t at yesterday’s second line parade for their friends in the Treme Sidewalk Steppers club. But about hour in, Rebirth just came out of nowhere playing “Let’s Go Get Em,” and with them was Trombone Shorty, Corey Henry, and about half of TBC. They absolutely killed it and people went nuts.
The back row of Philip Frazier, Keith Frazier, and Derrick Tabb was absolutely killing it.

This Tuesday at 6pm I will give the first reading for the book, so I’ve enlisted the help of my friends in the Rebirth Brass Band. I’ll read passages about them and their songs and they’ll be beside me to play those very songs.
