Jerome Jones is one of the founding members of the Hot 8 Brass Band, along with Bennie Pete and Harry Cook. He has played regularly with the band since 1994.
Jerome’s composition “You Bang, We Bang Bang” was written following the death of bandmate Joseph Williams in 2004. The tune is a regular part of Hot 8’s live performances, and, along with Walter Ramsey’s “Why Dey Had to Kill Him?” is one of a small number of explicit protest songs written by brass band musicians.
Listen to the Hot 8 play “You Bang, We Bang Bang” live at Jazz Fest in 2007.
